Vohon Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
Founded in 1988, Vohon is an Edmonton-based ensemble praised for its diverse talent and ability to bring the traditional into new cultural landscapes. Vohon is known for its incomparable presence on stage from the moment the curtain opens to the final Hopak!
The ensemble is under the artistic direction of Trish Kushniruk and Garrett Nestorowich who bring over 70 years of dance and instructional experience. Their unique styles combine to create challenging and innovative choreography, including both regional repertoire and character storyline pieces. Under this partnership, dancers present a skillful blend of Ukrainian folk dance, ballet, and contemporary dance. The result is a captivating display of Ukrainian dance that is blazing a path for the ensemble around the world.
Vohon’s roots run deep with Ken Kachmar, co-founder of Vohon, acting as Business and Performance Director for the ensemble. In this role, Ken brings expertise earned by years in the Ukrainian dance community to uncover exciting performance opportunities for Vohon.
Since its inception, Vohon has brought its traditional and innovative Ukrainian dance choreography to local and international stages, including festivals across Western Canada, the United States, Australia, Germany, Scotland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Japan, Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. Vohon is a strong ambassador for Edmonton, as well as the province and country.
