Ukrainian New Year’s ~ Malanka in the Mountains 2012

For the past 15 years Malanka, or Ukrainian New Years, at The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has celebrated the close of the holiday season, where the Lodge partners with the Vohon Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Society of Edmonton to put together a weekend chock-full of entertainment and tradition.

Malanka is a Ukrainian folk holiday celebrated on January 13, which is New Year’s Eve in accordance with the Julian calendar. Malanka caps off the festivities of the Christmas holidays, and is often the last opportunity for partying before the solemn period of Lent which precedes Easter. Parties are often held on Saturday nights before or after the 13th.

The theme for the 16th annual event is “Back to Our Roots”. 2011 marks the 120th anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Canada. This event will mark the end of the anniversary year with a celebration of Christmas and cultural traditions for everyone who wants to learn about their roots as well as embrace their traditions. As always this event draws families together from across Canada to celebrate the holiday season.

We’ve got two of Canada’s best Ukrainian party bands this year, Millenia and Tyt i Tam!  These bands will have you on the dance floor late into the night with non-stop music on both Friday and Saturday nights.

This is a fantastic event for the whole family to enjoy!  Call 1-888-442-2200 today to book your room.
