Malanka is a Ukrainian folk holiday celebrated on January 13, which is New Year’s Eve in accordance with the Julian calendar. Malanka caps off the festivities of the Christmas holidays, and is often the last opportunity for partying before the solemn period of Lent which precedes Easter. Parties are often held on Saturday nights before or after the 13^th.

The theme for the 16^th annual event is “Back to Our Roots”. 2011 marks the 120^th anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Canada. This event will mark the end of the anniversary year with a celebration of Christmas and cultural traditions for everyone who wants to learn about their roots as well as embrace their traditions.
